Five for Friday

fiveforfriday

I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching.  Yes and 1st grade does rock!

1 and 2.  Teacher Training and work day

I had a kid free day today (and a kid free lunch YeA!!!).  Our school is going through an overhaul with a new head this year.  We have turned into a blended learning school with specialist teachers at each grade level.  Surprise I teach math!  Today we were training more on Illuminate which will house all classroom, school, and state data in one spot.  I am super excited to start using it.  We have run into some glitches which have slowed down our progress.  The second half of the day I was able to finish report cards, write certificates for dreambox (I will definitely tell you more about this soon), change centers around, make new ten frames.  I still didn't finish everything on my list, but I did good.

3.  Homework, Common Core, Singapore, and Parents
It has been another difficult week with our new math, homework, and parents.  Children are easy to teach.  Parents have a more difficult time.  They want to show their children how to do it the way they were taught.  It is hard for them to change.  Especially when it was drilled into them that this is the way we do it.  There is no other way.  Do not be creative in math.  Math is fact.  All of the sudden that is no longer true and it makes them uncomfortable.  I know we will get it and the parents will too.  It just takes time and patience.

4.  I finished reading The Runaway King.

  1. Yes, I feel you about students and parents. I am sure I am going to struggle with things like that as my son moves further into elementary school. I just hope I will remember what it's like from the teacher's perspective! :) Hope you have a great weekend.
